Lake E Daily News, May 13 and 14th, 2009
Yesterday on Wednesday, May 13 the remaining members of the science team departed from Lake E. Before 11 AM all of the containers had been sealed and crimped for shipment back to Pevek. Pavel took final pictures.
The helicopter scene was typical. We called at 9:30 AM to Pevek to provide them with a weather report. At the lake we had perfect weather, clear skies and no wind but in Pevek the clouds were very low and the pilot wasn't sure he wanted to go. So we waited to 1 PM and called again. Then there was the usual confusion that we were told they weren't sure the if the helicopter left. Then around 1:45 we learn that the helicopter did depart at 1 PM. So then there was the flurry of getting the luggage on the bus and into the sled behind one of the vesdahot.
So around 3 PM the helicopter arrived and we said out good byes and Dasvee Danyas. We arrived in Pevek around 4:30, and by 7 we were at dinner celebrating our accomplishments.
Thursday was a slow day of getting oriented in our new accommodations at the Hydromet in Pevek. So we have last minute business to do here in Pevek before we go in 5 days. We are all unwinding in our own ways.
sincerely, Julie BG
